So you wana hear about the Bald Frog with the Wig eh? "They" Say, "Be careful what you wish for..."

Ribbit

Once, not very long ago, there was a great big frog whose name was Bruce. Bruce had a very good job, and he lived in a hip neighborhood called Waldo. Although Bruce had every other reason to have the utmost confidence, his ribbit was so resonating that, instead of attracting the lovely lady froggies, it frightened them away. In fact it wasn’t really a ribbit at all but rather a deep bellow like that of the bulls in the countryside.

One of Bruce’s frog buddies suggested that he simply never speak. He tried that but then his best characteristic, his story-telling ability which was loved by all who knew him, could not be expressed. Any attention from the frogspawners was fleeting because Bruce's lack of conversation made him appear to be lower on the evolutionary ladder.

Then one day, he met the Love Frog. Had the Love Frog been a human, his profession might have been door to door vaccuum salesman. The Love Frog saw immediately that Bruce's watering hole was spawn-less and began selling Bruce a solution. "Bruce, my main frog, your problem is not your bellow but your baldness. Look in the mirror, fellow, and what do you see? You are bald as bald can be."

This was certainly true, thought Bruce, so he asked, "You're the Love Frog. What would you prescribe?" The Love Frog pulled out his rubber gloves, placed them on his webbed digits, and felt all around Bruce's head. "Not a single follicle, I'm afraid. Propecia will not work for you. We must get you a wig." Poor Bruce swallowed the sales pitch just like he'd seen the fish in the water fall for the fisherman's hook time and time again. Never once did it occur to him that all frogs are bald, even the Love Frog.

Two days later, the Love Frog returned with a doozy of wig. Bruce looked at it hesitatingly and asked, "Was this all you could find for me?" Although the wig was certainly detestable, the Love Frog in all his icky slipperiness replied, "My dear Bruce. This is Waldo. You can't have just any old do. This spiked look, brought to fame by the punk rockers, is all the rage these days!" Bruce couldn't argue with that, so he donned the wig and waited for his love to arrive. He waited and waited and waited.

Then one day, along came a bright green lizard, one of the omnivorous kind, charging right at Bruce. Bruce looked behind him, thinking that perhaps she had set her eyes on someone else, but there was no one behind him. No one to the right, and no one to the left. Then he suddenly realized the lizard's gaze was directly on him, but it wasn’t a look of hunger but a look of desperate love! Bruce looked in the water at his reflection and saw a spiky-headed lizard looking back at him. “Oh, no! When she finds out I’m not really a lizard, I’ll be her dinner!”

Within moments of the lizard's reaching him, Bruce swiped the wig from his bald head and let out the most guttural, loud and awful ribbit ever heard in herpitology. It was so loud that the bulls in a nearby field echoed his call. Shocked at the sound and embarrassed by her mistake, the lizard turned and ran away.

Bruce, whose intellect is sound although perhaps a little naive, understood then how silly it was for a frog to wear a wig. Just as he was laughing at himself and shrugging off any chance at reproduction, the lovely frogspawners began to appear in the dozens. To Bruce's surprise, they weren't afraid of his bellow any more. In fact, they loved his ribbit, for it was frightening enough to scare away a predator that loves to feed on frog eggs.

Ever since then, Bruce has been considered the father of all the generations of bullfrogs, with their distinct mating call that ensures their existence in perpetuity.

We enjoyed Yemmallo's story! My family has a different story about the bald frog and his wig.

La Rana Calva e la sua Parrucca

In Sicily, the ash from the eruptions of Mt Etna provides perfect growing conditions for olives, lemons and other vegetables. The farmers collect rain water in cisterns on the terraced hillsides to irrigate their crops. It was in one of these cisterns that our friend, Rocky, spent his days, happily catching flies with his long tongue and eating them.

Like all frogs, Rocky was bald. Day after day, the pecore (sheep) came to drink at the cistern. They had such beautiful thick coats, that Rocky began to wonder why he was different. Why didn’t he have curls like the sheep?

One spring day, the farmer came to the giardini (garden). He gathered the sheep together, clipped off their thick curls and took their wool home in large sacks. This made the poor frog feel even worse. The farmer must think that the sheep were very special if he collected their hair.

Rocky noticed a clump of wool on the ground that the farmer had missed. “Now is my chance!” he thought. He asked the bees for some sticky miele (honey) and rolled his whole body in it. Then he rolled in the clump of wool until he looked like a furry snowball. Rocky was so proud! The animals gathered around to see Rocky, the hairy frog as he hopped all around, showing off his beautiful coat. As he was capering around the edge of the cistern, a juicy fly buzzed by – zap! Rocky leapt and snagged the fly out of the air and landed in the water with a plop. “Oh no, my beautiful hair!” he cried as the water washed away the honey and his wig.

Rocky was so embarrassed! He held his breath and sank to the bottom to hide. Rocky’s friend Goldie the pesci dell'oro (gold fish) swam up. “The sheep eat and grow wool but we have a more important job. The farmer brought fish here to eat the small zanzare (mosquitoes) that live in the water and frogs to eat the flies. Together we help him keep the water clean and the other animals healthy. If we had hair, we would be slow like the sheep and we couldn’t do our jobs.”

Rocky was surprised – could Goldie be right? The next day, Rocky watched the sheep when they came to the cistern to drink. The flies were buzzing around their heads and landing on them. Pete, the largest pecore, flicked his ears and tail to shoo the insects away but the persistent flies continued to land on Pete’s head. Rocky hopped over and grabbed a few fat flies out of the air with his tongue. “Those flies were driving me crazy. Thanks Rocky!” Pete sighed with relief. Rocky puffed with pride. He was doing an important job for his friends!

Now Rocky hangs around his favorite cistern, happily catching flies with his long tongue and eating them, and laughs with his friends about the day that Rocky the bald frog wore a wig.

Great weekend wishes to all the Nations of TILL. Some nations are experiencing difficulty getting on the blog. Reach out to others and show them the way!
This Monday, April 6th, some of us are traveling into Boston to attend the ARC's State House ceremony honoring two of our own, Alan Chefitz of Doris Rd and Doug Townsend from TILL Cental -Billerica. We'll report in after the grand event!

Braintree ladies said...

Braintree Ladies are on finally on. Even though our manager is making us do a MAJOR spring cleaning, even if we live like princesses already. We have a new staff that is confused and lost we are trying to convince her that it is normal routine from
our manager to make our house into a castle. . Her side kick can not believe that we have to do this MAJOR spring cleaning for a castle that is already wonderfully decorated and needs no more improvements. Although their equals have already been though this spring cleaning one year too many, they have learned to just go with what our manager says since the end results is to put a smile on her face.

Peabody house has had some April sadness. First one of the individuals lost a parent. Then the van got in an accident,so we have no wheels. We are hoping the rest of the month improves!!!

Hello all you nations of TILL. I have concerned with business of the realm but now turn my attention to you and all of your noble pursuits. Your Ambassador of Games and myself, attended a fine affair of state yesterday at, quite appropriately, the State House, where many affairs of State take place. In addition, to having two of our very own citizens, Doug Townsend and Alan Chefitz of the Great Nation of TILL Central Billerica, awarded for distinguished actions, we embarked on a mission to cause the dastardly budget cuts, so plagueing our land, to cease and desist. All in all, it was a day for all of our United Nations to be proud.
I shall be monitoring your progress throughout April Madness, and, with your permission, comment from time to time.

In the meantime, please check in with our friends at Peabody who seem to be living through some early tribulations. Helping out is a very good April Madness thing to do, as I'm sure you are all aware.

For now,

Your servant

I want to wish everybody a great April Madness. This year will be historic. After all, this is the tenth year that we are doing it!
In closing, I want to leave you a quote that JFK said in his inaugural address on Friday, January 20, 1961. "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."

Hello all,
Who's going to the Braintree Dance Sat? Please report back, I can't attend, so I'll be curious to know how many nations were represented there. Any Easter happenings? Passover is at the halfway mark, have folks attended Seders? with family? with friends? Inquiring minds would love to know what people are up to, of course, I wouldn't expect you to divulge any top-secret info.
Several delegates from different nations will be converging on the Nation of Gibson Ave, Dedham for a Passover Seder on Monday. Don't forget your cameras!
If you have things going on, please use the blog to get the word out AND help your brother & sister nations navigate the internet and get onto the blog.
Have a great weekend whatever you do!

Hello Nations of TILL
Happy Tax Day to our fellow taxpayers.
Anyone following the State budget news???
We have just received the intial report from the House Ways and Means Committee with much more positive news that we were told at the State House last week. The money that funds our Family Support(including our TRASE Afterschool Program), Turning 22, Autism, Residential,Community, transportation etc. are all looking very good. Our lobbying and advocating efforts will need to continue until the final budget is signed. But for now, this looks like the programs and staff that we feared we would be losing, now have good reason to believe that they are spared - for the time being!!!
Remember, just as in revolutionary times, our motto is
"Don't Tread On Me"

Part of Family Support is planned respite - yes, that's us!

Our families are busy calling and writing their Representatives to let them know how important these services are to them.

HAPPY EARTHDAY!
Today we had a wonderful gathering with all of the TILL Day Nations at the Heritage Museum in Lexington. We toured the Exhibits with particular attention to the great photos of folks arriving at Ellis Island. The "Seeds of Liberty" portraying the Revolutionary War and the significance of Lexington & Concord was also a big hit.
As I sit here under rainy skies in Dedham, it's hard to believe we were just picnicing under a beautiful sunny sky a mere two hours ago. Wow, we were lucky!
Hopefully this will be the last of the rain for a bit.
The Walk for Hunger Fundraiser that was held in honor of Janice's birthday at Andover Street, Danvers last nite was a great success - Good job to all who organized and supported the cause.
Adria Hodas was in attendance and asked that I pass along info about The Perkins School For The Blind and their participation in an online contest to win a grant to restore a pond/recreation area at the School. In tribute to Helen Keller and her incredible teacher, please check out the following website and cast your vote for Perkins. They are up against some tough competition and could use our support. http://www.partnersinpreservation.

An email with this info will also be sent to all Nations.

WOW, what a WEEKEND!!!
I saw lots & lots of nations of TILL throughout the weekend at many wonderful fundraising parties.
I have just printed some of the terrific group shots I took at today's Walk for Hunger. I will be showing them to the Quest team tomorrow. I'm sure there were a few people who were there but did not pass by my camera lens. I will announce a total tally of houses represented and $ raised as I get the info. However, based on my photos and amounts I saw turned in today, 17 TILL residences appear in my shots and $1,409.00 was donated to Project Bread.
Thank you all for the tremendous effort it took to achieve these results. Please communicate with me if you were at the Walk, but didn't see me.
Also, I hope to hear from those of you who were a part of the Brockton Walk for Cancer that also took place today.
Again, THANK YOU!
